Twins are running out of innings—and rested arms
The Twins have reached last-stand territory after letting Friday’s game escape late. Their offense generated isolated pieces of useful contact rather than sustained pressure, with Kaelen Culpepper supplying the tying hit before the bullpen lost command.

The lineup is also operating without Byron Buxton, who is out for the season and set for hip surgery, as reported by startribune.com. Rookie Walker Jenkins inherits a demanding center-field assignment, removing Buxton’s power, speed and range at the worst possible point of the schedule.
Guardians can see the bridge to the ninth
The Guardians strengthened their hold on the final AL Wild Card place with Friday’s comeback and remain within immediate reach of the AL Central lead. They won despite quiet production from José Ramírez and Jo Adell, with Travis Bazzana, Angel Martínez and Brayan Rocchio driving the decisive traffic.
Right-hander Daniel Espino is listed to open, not to supply traditional starter length. He has worked exclusively in major-league relief this season, so his power fastball and hard breaking ball are best viewed as a short opening look before the Guardians turn to their bulk plan.
The identity of that bulk follower remains unconfirmed, but the late-game roles are much easier to read. Cade Smith handled a low-stress save Friday and should remain available, while Tim Herrin and Erik Sabrowski were not heavily extended.

The cleaner bullpen map points to the Guardians
The moneyline case begins with Minnesota’s compounded pitching-management problem. Prielipp may provide effective early innings, especially with his slider against the Guardians’ left-handed core, but limiting him would force a taxed and unsettled bullpen to cover too much of the afternoon.
The Guardians are not asking Espino to masquerade as a full starter. His job is to deliver a difficult short-burst look, hand the game to the planned middle innings and leave a manageable route toward Smith.
